Dear All,
Having read the above thread with a lot of interest, I was wondering if it would be possible to shed some light on the GS Mk II I have just been given.
My Grandmother has just given it to me and it belonged to my Grandfather who fought in WWII. He started off as a foot soldier, but was an officer by the time he left. He was in the 'Port operating co. Royal Engineers'. Both his father and one of his brothers fought in WWI so it could have belonged to them (although from what I've seen below it is post 1929). Unfortunately my grandfather has passed away and my grandmother doesn't know anything about it!
What does the 'A19341' relate to? Is it simply an issue number (and will it tell us the date made?). Also do you know what material they were made of?
Below are some photos, which if you click on them will take you to a higher resolution on imgur. The front is glass which I took off to get a better photo without a reflection.
Thank you for taking the time to have a look!
Sam
p.s. It is not currently in working order, but has been in a drawer for many years!
